Well how do you spell fun in kid world? Beads and anything to do with creating. What fun we had today , the beads were flying. Girls and shiny beads ,what more can one say. Here is a shot of the girls concentrating on their designs and a shot of pleased smiling faces. They are making window decorations with beads that I will melt for them in the oven ,yes stinky work, well my part of it is. Some of the kids are doing these this week others will be doing some in weeks to come. Also here is a shot of two sweet happy people and their paintings from just the other day. There is no stopping these children. They are always so pleased with whatever they create. I can't stress enough to children and adults alike that whatever we do is super nice. All is original and special because it is done by YOU!

The studio is quiet November 30th 2014
Tis still sometime until Christmas and all children are at home.
The studio is quiet but not for that long.
For they will be back with laughter and cheer getting ready for Santa and a New Year.
Special gifts have been planned and started and in gear taking our time but not getting finished is a fear.
Not to worry our smocks are lined up and ready to go and we are all wishing for inspirational snow.
Christmas concerts ,plays ,recitals and such seem to be the topic so much.
With anticipation of the day that all our young friends will shine in their own way.

Our creative gifts we will wrap with excitement and place under the tree for Mom ,Dad and Me.
For that something homemade seems to hit a core of old fashioned times and days of yore.
Something you made with love on your mind ,never to wonder that you would not do fine?
Gifts to remember and become heirlooms to cherish over many moons.
For something made from heart seems to take over and seems very very smart.

Christmas carols are buzzing all through the air taking over all of our cares.
Life can be stressful when rushing around but do stop and remember when you hear their joyful sound.
For when they say "Tis is the season" yes they are right for there is a reason.
Sometimes we forget but then we regret that it is all about the work and the sweat.
So bring some joy ,laughter and cheer and try and spread throughout the whole year.
And when you are lonely and feeling gloom pickup a paint brush instead of a broom.
Then after all trimmings and ribbons are rolled we will celebrate a New Year and say goodnight to the old.
For whether it be a new day or new year we must try very hard to bring it in with good cheer.
We make promises to ourselves and our friends and swear this time that there will be no pretends.
We will at times stumble and fall but not to be concerned it happens to us all.
With help from mankind and a song in your heart we can all do our part.

Merry Christmas,
Anyone out there who knows anything about needle felting know that you use a very sharp barbed needle poking into raw wool while working on a sponge. Your hand moves very fast up and down and you poke the wool over and over again until the wool fuses together creating and sculpting whatever you are building. All of the above is very interesting activities and medium for a bad, curious kitten who is very active and busy. I have been back needle felting these past days with a squirt bottle near to keep sweet boy at bay. I have collected up many wonderful props for some interesting creations over the summer months and here is the first of hopefully a few for a show at White Point on November 16th. This is another one of my "Beach Babe" series this one is sitting in the most beautiful wooden lawn chair. You will have to come to the show and pick her up ,turn her around and check her out in her bikini, wink wink ,nudge nudge...LOL My beach babes have been very popular in the past.
As well as the needle felting I have been back to painting on my found boat parts. These days being somewhat older and not able to beach comb and climb over rocks like in past years has been a challenge but thankfully I found tucked away in a corner in my shop a few wonderful old ,interesting boat pieces and I will have at this upcoming show a few paintings on boat parts. Chuck still needs to prepare them so they can be hung and after he does that I will share a photo of them here. More to come soon.Sea Peoplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03266077253808826219noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7074326056166126635.post-65777777577578518822014-08-26T16:25:00.000-03:002014-08-26T16:25:00.402-03:00 "Creative Summer smiles" Nothing nicer then an honest happy smile from some great young people!! Pretty well says it all and the excitment I have heard with stories of new book bags ,lunch boxs and first day school clothes lately. We all may be tired that first day back to school after a warm and wonderful fun filled summer but everyone including parents will look forward or in some cases be happy about first day back. It is what it is, a slow decline from our hot days of sand and surf and the beginning of some fun cooler Months to come. Like many Autumn is my time of year, the heat of Summer a tad too much for me. Not so years ago, age, it must be age:-) But for these happy, loved kids its always a great day. Here I have some pictures of my creative friends with their works of art. Cousins enjoying cousins, making memories together ,creating stories to be shared someday with their families and old friends spending fun creative time together. Neat young people!! Everyday is a great day to create inside or out. Whether it is learning to sail, swim ,build a sand castle or paint a picture, just add to the life and beauty that living offers. Always leave the day more beautiful then when it began.
Well like I said you can see from the photos when was when. There is the shot of us the other day on our rock, our rock being the magical spot where we lived the following couple of summers after moving from the tent into a home off the grid, spending every day or the next few summers living on this rock jutting out into the ocean looking over the water to the town of Lunenburg. After camping that summer we couldn't bring ourselves to sleep indoors. We left our paying jobs to take up inshore fishing, why not we said , no kids only pets at that time, then we opened a craft shop the only one in Lunenburg back then, yup today that is pretty hard to believe knowing todays Lunenburg, we should have hung in there and stayed , never cry over that spilt milk I say. Then after that off we went to become parents and foster parents and buying a hobby farm on the Medway River. And that brings us to today, living in a quant little Town where I was born and brought up on the beautiful Mersey River and after many years of hard work inshore fishing and making hay and kids..that may explane why our poor old bodies hurt but our wonderful memories still are as of today as fresh as a daisy. So this is why the title of this writing is what it is, just a little of this and a little of that. I am thankful for all of it!!And ready for more!!!

By this title "a little of this and a little of that" I am referring to this blog installment ,it has been few and far betweens at writing in here lately, especially these warm summer days full of all of those summertime things we all love to do. So today I will share a few pictures and stories completly differant from one another but in a sense not. I'll explane more about that later.
First off a couple of pictures of very talented kid's and not only art wise but lifewise. I have forever worked with children and Chuck and I have in the past been Foster Parents to great kids so we know kid's and I tell you that the kids that I have the pleasure of knowing these days are pretty darn SPECIAL people! So saying that here are a couple pictures first up "

"Happy Girls"The girls were happy today to be back at art after a week off camping and summer activities. I had one of my artsy young friend's tell me the other day that she would rather be at art then away camping, very sweet but I reminded her that indeed she could do both. By taking a simple sketch pad and pencil and maybe even watercolors with her on her trip that she would have everything she would need at hand to enjoy whipping up a little sketch of her summer fun, sand ,surf, woods even a little sketch of Mom and Dad, family and friends doing fun summer stuff and then during the cold dark days of winter take the time to do a painting with the help of her minds eye and her sketch. So everyday can be a day of art with a whole lot of otherstuff as well.

and here we have Keegan who is standing beside a painting he and his buddy Caleb did together and they plan to donate it to either a hospital or maybe even a school any place that children as well as adults can enjoy it. They designed it special in mind of all children and the love of play, fun and laughter. I'm not sure if they have found a forever home for it yet so if anyone out there has any ideas let us know, two boys would be thrilled to hang it somewhere where it would be appriciated. Great job guy's.

So let me switch gears now to tell you about two other young people, maybe I should say once young people, then again its how you view life, that would be another deeper in thought time. Back to these two younger people, Chuck and Deb. We met in 1978 when Chuck just happened to step on my roommates foot . OK let me push ahead a few Months to when we went camping at the Ovens Natural Park with a great Dane in a pup tent on a foggy dampVictoria Day weekend in May 1978 never to return that summer . Shall we skip ahead yet again? Lets do, we ended up living at the Ovens that our first of many Summers together. Our first camp site was near the cliffs in the woods. We later after a few weeks and becoming friends with the owner ,as we would ,he offered us a wonderful camp site down on the point, very private ,seculded a great place for us and my Great Dane Baron, you can imagine why he offerd to us this great site? LOL and considering that we both worked in Lunenbug daily and our camp site looked like we lived there. It has been many years since we have been back and this is where this story and pictures will take you , I will add a few pictures of us back then with a picture that I took just the other day when we returned not only to the Ovens but also to where we moved to in Feltzen South after the cool Fall temptures started to drop while still living in our tent . See if you can see a differance? Then I will get on with th erest of my story. Sea Peoplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03266077253808826219noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7074326056166126635.post-39303543328606553902014-05-04T08:56:00.000-03:002014-05-04T08:56:23.660-03:00Spring has sprung

Yes Spring has sprung, and we are happy to feel the warm sun on our skin yet again after such a long Winter. I was going to wait for a rainy day to write but early Sunday morning works just as well. As I sit here looking outside at another sunny day I am waiting for the sun to warm the air enough for my daily bike ride that I am thrilled to be back at after many long cold months. There is so much work to be done outside, yes way less then when we lived on the farm but less is hard when the old bod is older and work becomes much more difficult, even the fun stuff, but one needs to keep going for it seems I must have let the hired help go because I look around and its just we two here doing it all. So we will plow away at it and enjoy the benefits at the end when we can relax and watch the beautiful world around us on a hot day in the shade enjoying a cold one.
In these pictures you can see these wonderful talented kids who I refer to as "The Boys" The little boys and the big boys. Melts my heart to look at their great paintings. These boys worked very hard over the past few weeks and finally were able to take their master pieces home. One boy left without getting his picture taken sadly so here we have the two older brothers with complete works. Then we have my little brothers who blew me away with the great job they did. Their younger brother wanted to get in the pic so here are all three its a bit blurry you try and get three little guys to stand still. But look at their ties in the photo, last week was our Local Music Festival and along with these fine looking young men all the children were sharing their talents with us all week long. We do the school breakfast program and first thing last Monday morning we were greeted by children all dressed and excited to hit the stage . It's so sweet when they come through the line and want to show me their new dresses, jewerly and shoes, little ladies and Gents all dressed up with somewhere to go. The boys with their little ties on, I always say to them"I love a man in a tie" and I always get the sweetest smiles. I know that it is the same everywhere, but Liverpool has always had some great talent come out of it over the years . So many but just to mention two who everyone has heard of Carol Baker and Hank Snow and so so many more and many many more yet to come.Way to go Liverpool Nova Scotia!
Watching these kids this week takes me back to when I was a little girl and remembering how excited I was to stand on that stage and sing my little heart out in my nice crisp crinolin and dress and patent leather shoes with my hair all curled and even when one time I was sick I still got up there and gave it my all. I loved music festival week and can remember my solo teacher Dorothy Killiam . I can see in my minds eye still her piano and the music room to the left as you went in her home. I remained friends with her over the years, she was a special lady who helped make a difference in my life. Being friends with her daughter growing up kept me in touch with her. I will always be thankful for this wonderful lady. Thank you Mrs. Killiam I am sure you are busy with a choir of Angels .
There is so much happening in the next many months around town. Hank Snow celebration then Liverpool International Theatre Festival. The old town is a buzz and these things will bring us into a great warm summer and Privateer Days and then bring on the lazy days of summer and sun.Sea Peoplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03266077253808826219noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7074326056166126635.post-27010048198387198072014-03-30T11:37:00.003-03:002014-03-30T11:37:58.423-03:00 Springing ahead!!

Yes we are all springing ahead weather or not! I am taking advantage of this weather and spending my time with my Kid's art classes or sitting needle felting , working on art for the upcoming white Point Show April 13th as well getting excited about a few new pieces which will be available this Summer and Fall.
Above are pictures one taken back in 2005 when we delivered "Elkanah Freeman" to the old Visiter's Center on Liverpools water front and a shot or I should say a selfie of myself and Elkanah today March 30th 2014 when I was at the new Visiters Center doing a bit of repair to his hands from being held so much in his God only knows how many photo shoots he has had with folks visiting Queen's Co. over these past years. He stood in the old Tourist Bureau for a time then moved into the new building. Although not in order I included a couple other shots of him in his beginning and another of him when we had to bring him in to finish him in our kitchen back then. He wouldn't fit in the house we live in now. I remember the day that we brought him to town in the back of a truck standing proud all the way from Mill Village to Liverpool. But considering that we use to transport Goats , Calfs , Pigs and Chickens in our cars in the past , no one would be surprised.
So Spring is in the air ,I saw a Salmon Fly yesterday, he looked cold and tired but he was alive and I said Hi ,welcome back, we can only hope! Get your bug jackets out and ready and prepare yourselves, for come hell or high water it will become sunny and warm soon!Sea Peoplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03266077253808826219noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7074326056166126635.post-21600033638613148002014-02-18T08:47:00.000-04:002014-02-18T08:47:11.893-04:00A busy 61st yearYes today is the first day of my 61st year. And yes I have been thankfully very busy with a great deal of happiness this past year in my life. With of course sadness as well ,no chances of perfection in this big sky. Last Summer we lost a great friend ,someone who came to me late in my life but came to me strong and true. I have come to realize in my many years that we can not let these life changes get us down to the point that we get sick. Some things we simply can't change , we need to learn and with age we do learn to cope with our life trees being shaken. I am making ,creating, shareing and not having enough time or energy to get into any mischief at this ripe age. There is nothing I need ,nothing that money can buy that is. We all could use better health and a warmer ,perfect climate would be nice. None of these things can be bought, oh sorry yes we could buy a better climate with a ticket somewhere else, but I am quite content adding a sweater and turning the heat up to be here in this sweet part of the World where when walking down the street the smiles and waves are many. We try and share our energy and time as much as we can at our local nurseing home and Wickwire school. One day at the Nurseing home I had the sweetest thing said to me. I regonized a Dear lady from my childhood and went up to her and gently touched her shoulder and said" Hello how nice to see you , you may not remember me?" She then said "Why yes you are little Debbie Sponagle" Well inside I was cracking up and at the same time welling up with tears at the thought of being called little Debbie, for these days little is not how I refer to myself. But this was very touching indeed. My art studants are filling a void in my heart that I was afraid was going to be lost . For years I did face painting at festivals and events all over the Maritimes as well as work shops with children at schools and special events but these days we don't travel far so I am thankful to work with these creative children and parents. I have many ideas for Summer Tourist season ,having been something I have been doing ever since our Craft Shop days way back now in 1978 in Lunenburg ,some of you may remember "The Copper Doll house". Then we started travelling to do shows which was fun but exhausting at the same time, but oh the memories and the wonderful other Artists that we met over those years. Back in those days we didn't have the internet to stay intouch but have been able to reconnect with many from back then since. I have decided not to do shows anymore ,and in saying that well maybe one or so it all depends on time and location. But I can't stop doing what I do and that is making stuff ,that just seems to be me. And me is what you see and get, back to my 61st year, when one must be happy in ones own skin and do what makes one happy and fulfilled!! And that I am. OK now to introduce you to my newest needle felted charactor "Ethel" the mouse. Ethel is the main charactor in my newest Childrens book that I am working on, I will be starting the art work for it very soon now that I have received my new watercolor pencils from Sissy (Michele) thank you ,I love them, if you don't know watercolor pencils, check them out, they are nice. This little mouse will have many adventures to share and I look forward to the day of her introduction in words. But here she is in needle felting. My new friend "Ethel" or Ethel's ,all one of a kind.
I will be introducing Ethel to the public this weekend Sat. Feb. 22nd while I am at White Point Beach Resort as Artist in Residence for the afternoon. One can never go wrong spending time at white Point. I will be working on a couple more Ethel's this week for the occasion ,they are so cute all together. As well I will be working on something needle felted and watching the waves and ocean and dreaming of warm sun and spring while there, I may even enjoy a beer , for I find a cold glass of beer which I very seldom indulge in but at WP it tastes so GOOD!!. So I leave you with my birthday wise for all . May you make everyday special and great for it is all up to us, our lives are in our own hands, hold unto it well and strong!! And share a good chuckle with all you meet!!Sea Peoplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03266077253808826219noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7074326056166126635.post-90090391805849263082014-01-01T12:35:00.000-04:002014-01-01T12:35:37.249-04:002014 All ready?Happy New Year!!
This is my latest piece, started before and worked on at White Point and since days. I title it" Can i help you ?" I am excited at the thoughts of needle felted pieces I have planned so far for 2014. I joke with people because of being seen at our local 2nd hand shops in town on a regular basis, saying "I'm really not a hoarder, really I'm not." What I do is search for just that right prop for these pieces. And..I have these past Months found some great ones and look forward to incorporating them into
future fun sculptures.
This past year has been at times a challenge ,I believe that comes with this age business of getting older. But in that same breath has also been interesting and wonderful. Again with age we see this more and more as we not always grow gracefully long in the tooth. By the time we have done our time and have taken on many years under our belts we find that we are old and tired and don't really care to change the world. Making due with what we have and being thankful for every minute. Spending time with special like minded people and sharing our old wisdom with those who appreciate it. This past year has been a whirlwind for me with the loss of a dear friend in July who I didn't have the privilege of knowing all my life but what time we had together we laughed a lot. Thank you "Lady P" which I fondly referred to her as. Then my "Kid's" my art students who have put a smile on my face and a light in my heart with their enthusiasm in all that they create. Funny how children have no fear when it comes to creating art in any form, adults on the other hand I find sometimes are too quick at saying 'I can't do that" come on give it a try, it may not look like mine or yours and never should ,for it is yours and you made it, what more could you ask for.
The weather, lets talk about the weather!! what is this silly winter all about, bring on whatever but Mother Nature ? please make up your mind? We were as I am sure many out there are doing as well and that would be remanissing about Winters past. Remembering snow, sledding, sking all that fun stuff ,playing in the snow. Now don't get me wrong , I can't shovel anymore but these funny strange winters are unhealthy.
I don't believe in this New Years resolution stuff or diets for that matter, I never will make a promise even to myself unless I really feel I can do it, I will take one day at a time and promise nothing more then 24 hours at a time. That way i won't be let down. I have decided to make a change to myself with the help of someone else, it will happen this Friday january 3rd. 2014 at 2 PM, can anyone guess? LOL New year ,New me? we will see.
So bring it on 2014, it will be what it will be and that would be what we make it!! That said : May all your dreams come to be and all your days filled with glee! As well swim goggles have been put away for the winter and art brushes and smocks ready for fresh paint. Here are a couple photos of two of my girls who have been learning how to rug hook, in my previous blog writing you can see these two creative young ladies while working on their projects and here they are with their finished table mats and a wonderful job they did. They were very patient considering something like this does not happen over night. I have plans to teach all my students rug hooking but we will all be working on the same project thanks to one of my Moms giving me an unfinished project of hers which is big enough for everyone to have a hand in and the plan is when finished to hopefully sell this piece and to donate the money made to our local SPCA animal shelter /rescue, this way they learn the craft and sharing at the same time. Last Christmas we did a craft show at our local fire dept. and we will be there again this November, date and time will be announced closer to the show. The kids will be working on special projects just for the show, they are excited about selling their art and making some money for themselves or if in the case that they don't sell all of their work they then will have special pieces of art to give as gifts to their friends and families. Last year they painted mussel shells like Santa's and sold them to raise money for the SPCA with over $90.00 donated. great job guys, very kind of you to think of animals in need. Below is a picture of "The Boys" who were back from a summer of fun. They finished their paintings and asked if they could take a moment and visit the "Bird House" which is a small guest cottage we have here, the kids love this magical little building with maps from all over the world plastered all over the walls , fun books to read and even a ukulele to play as you can see in in the picture. Then here below is a picture of a few of the girls showing off their wonderful art and smiles! There is no stopping these young minds, they have no fear when it comes to creating ,there is no right, there is no wrong in art. Art is created from the heart of the artist and enjoyed by those who see and feel the love of what lies before them.

That too can be fun. As you look through these pictures you will see a lot of smiles. As well take note of the concentration

and dedication these fine young people have with all they create . I believe we all have these abilities and as we grow into adulthood we forget and are way too quick to say"I can't do that" for, yes you can, your work may not look like everyone else's because it is yours , so take a moment and find your young at heart and say"yes I can do that". This Summer has flown by so quickly and I have been tardy at writing here in my blog. So this morning I thought I would sit and share these wonderful photos of some great kids with you all and I again have a busy day ahead so let me leave you with one thought"Yes you can!"
And How I could have forgotten to upload this wonderful picture taken just yesterday. I know ,I was so rushed this morning I skipped over this great shot. Then it seems that I had one of those ,well, you know "senior moments"I thought I had a private lesson today but discovered that indeed that I had mis-scheduled and written down the wrong date, so am taking a moment to update today's posting and then ready for dinner with our old friend who is home for a visit ,we shall break bread together. Meet "Buddy" he is my latest commission for one of my art students. Buddy was her pet who no longer is with her but at least she can remember him with this little guy.
Things have been so busy, hot and sad since Privateer days. We had a dear friend pass and with this news ,life has been hard to pick up pieces ,trying to appreciate our good times and remember the fun and laughter we had with such a wonderful person. To always give thanks for having them in our lives. Life goes on and we will make the best of it ,in her memory. So I was a bit slow getting this project started but as I worked and got to that point where it all comes together and I could see the Raccoon coming out from the wool I can say I am happy with Buddy and am thankful for the reason to take my mind elsewhere. I took what needle felted characters i had left after Privateer days down to Fort Point Lighthouse and even though I love to meet the people who buy them , they are better there then here, I sometimes think of them as my babies, I do know that some of you out there get what I am saying.
I remember many years ago now when we were making our Sea People figurines on a regular basis there was a news paper article written about us and the Sea people. That Christmas with every purchase of a Sea People which were usually being bought for gifts we gave a copy of the article to go with it. I remember actually feeling the energy on Christmas morning thinking and imagining all those who were reading that article and how special it was. It's always a great feeling to receive a phone call note or email and sometimes in some cases a photo of the person who received something that I made as a gift from someone they love. And when it's a commission of something that means so much to that person, well I am thankful for what I do and thank others for feeling the love.
I have been collecting some interesting props for future needle felting ,such as rocking chairs, bicycles and even a spinning wheel and by this Christmas God willing I will have some fun characters to share with you. Remember I do commissions of people and pets , all i need is a photo to work from .
Well that's about it for now, I have been trying to write for days and was having a hard time to be positive ,but I now have broken the ice and my next writing will be more up beat, I will share some pictures of young people and their art with you here.
Blesses to all, keep strong, be happy and be nice, for life is way too short!Sea Peoplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03266077253808826219noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7074326056166126635.post-8860626547015459762013-07-08T16:37:00.001-03:002013-09-12T09:49:39.162-03:00

Yes it is!

We all can't do everything and there is much we can't do ,but there is also much we can do. One needs to look and weigh out what works for you. Some people enjoy being on boards and doing meetings and solving many issues which need solved. Others offer their time at hospitals, nursing homes and other like places. Fire Departments,Auxiliaries the list is endless and so are these important jobs. While we lived in the country we worked for our local fire dept. and local elementary school for 27 years. When we moved to town instead of jumping into any particular organization we decided to look into what our aging bodies would allow us to do. Not being the vibrant young people we were in the past we knew that our time and energy had to fit our today life style. After being approached by two friends who knew our passions and talents we began volunteering at what has become more then rewarding but healing and satisfying as well with doing what we can for our local Theatre company "The Winds of Change" and working with the Elderly in local nursing homes and the very young at The Dr. John C. Wickwire school where we are reading mentors as well help with their breakfast program and drum and craft workshops in the past. Don't ever think that whatever task so small that one does isn't noticed or appreciated for it is, ten fold! Last week we were honored by having a young volunteer himself take pictures of us at the school and then to arrive today to find pictures ,writeup and great thanks given for what we do in one of the foray showcase windows. What a wonderful feeling to be thanked for doing something that makes you feel so good. We need to thank all of you for giving us this opportunity.

Hopefully with the joining of the Milton School into the Wickwire next Fall that more people won't step up and help to relieve some of the burden on the teachers in the so many different programs that need help. All you need is a simple back ground check of course and other then that get ready to smile.

So again thank you Dr. John C. Wickwire School for recognizing us for doing something we truly enjoy. Lets all try and step up to whatever plate fits . simple back ground check of course ,other then that , hospitals

Well there is so much I could and can say about these enthusiastic young artists and then again their satisfied smiles are worth a million words. They have been working for weeks on these paintings in the style of Claude Monet. The paint was flying week after week as they developed their own style of impressionism while learning about "Claude Monet" his life and work. To the point that a couple of them are doing school projects on him.
I find working with these children so rewarding and looking at these photos again says it all. You did a wonderful job guys.
I had to laugh ,last week a couple of my students were out sick with the flu and one Mom told me that one young man said, "I can go to art class if I take a gravol." Needless to say he didn't come to art that day and just as well , I have been fighting something off myself. But this week the boys will be back and again paint will fly, to again produce some wonderful works of art! That I will share here when they are done. Sadly last week I had a couple of paintings that left before I had a chance to take pictures. But they were wonderful as well! I can only hope to inspire and fuel the spark that already exists within them.
I was going to wait and add these pictures on Easter Sunday but decided why not do it now. These may put an Easter smile on some faces which need just that. I have been doing this for years and have roped Chuck into joining me. I use to work for the Bridgewater Mall back a few years ago as you can see in some of the pictures for the Shriner's and Kinsmen and between Bunny sessions I would visit the Bridgewater hospital and nursing homes instead of driving back to Mill Village. Or would go shopping and stay in costume, rather then be half dressed as a Rabbit . If I had a penny for all the looks and smiles I got. The most heart felt moment was one day when I was visiting the hospital and a gentleman came from one of the rooms and took my paw and said "You are just what my Mom needs right now" God Bless her she was near the end and she smiled and laughed with me that day. I thank God for those moments I shared with her while in costume. So today after after doing this since at least 1990 I still find great rewards in trying to hop down the Bunny trail with the help of Chuck who had no choice but to hop on board. Sometimes it just makes sense to join in then try to ignore the fact your wife grows ears and tail once a year. Happy Easter everyone, Life is way too short not to have a good laugh every once in a while.I have outgrown many of my bunny outfits but the ears ,tail and feet always seem to fit. Well sometimes one gets on a roll, or I should say I get on a roll. This is my latest roll"White Rabbit" 100% needle felted wool sculpture. He has been on my mind of late and while I was busy making Easter Bunnies I thought why not? So meet the Man or Rabbit. Just in time for Easter!
And speaking of Easter I will be writing and adding pictures in the near future here on my blog of my many Bunny gigs and Bunny outfits from over the years. We are doing another Bunny Gig this Easter on March 30th in Pine Grove park at 11 AM . An Easter Egg hunt for the Kids. This will be the 2nd year for this event ,organized by some great community active ,busy Mom's.We have out grown many Bunny outfits and Easter bonnets over these years but our ears and feet have kept on ticking and as long as we do we will again next year adorn our furry outfits to bring a smile to faces young and old. Yes I am sure some of those smiles are darn right laughs, people wondering why in the name of all that is Rabbit would we do this , well because we Love the Kids and having fun!! Why not ! Our way of keeping young.
So yesterday we had a late change in plans so I worked until late in the evening for me finishing up "White Rabbit" and I am so happy with the result.
There is talk of snow in the next few days, I do hope this is just that (talk) and doesn't come to be. My bike has been calling me, even though I will need to add a lot more air to my tires this Spring ,just to hold me up. Unlike the past couple years I didn't ride all winter . And It shows if you get my drift and I don't mean "snow drift".
Not sure but maybe today I will start another needle felting, I am thinking fisherman, standing beside a barrel and net. I love it when I can just take the thought ,find something mindless on TV and sit and needle felt which for anyone who doesn't know this medium is poke ,poke and poke a lot more with a bard needle and a large sponge and raw wool. I will share here when finished.
Oh and by the way"Happy St. Paddy's Day " to all out there who celebrate the green!

It may have sounded by this title that I was about to complain . Not the case .This is my latest needle felting, She is a pin cushion and what better title but "A Pain in the Butt" for her. She is made with 100% needle felted wool besides her glasses and pins. She has a felt covered cardboard base which keeps her erect waiting to be pinned. I think she would make a wonderful Mother's Day gift for a special Mom who sews. This sculptures whole body front ,back, head and arms and of course butt can be used for pins.
No pins in this guy, meet Louie who was our house guest today he is the sweetest puppy. Some of you may have met him before at"The Moss Pot " here in Liverpool on Main Street and those who haven't been in should. You not only will be greeted by great tasteful , unique products and art but will see Louie who I would say is the shops Mascot. He is a gem indeed and it was a privilege spending time with him today. When I have a new house guest such as Louie I tend to get a lot of work done inside in my studio because I want to watch and make sure he is doing OK and not getting into anything, which he didn't , a very laid back puppy. He even caught on to using the dogie door, he is a smart little guy. He was a treat. So thanks Louie for being the reason I finished this piece today instead of outside doing something else which probably needed to be done as well:-)
I have been busy thinking of getting ready for our Summer Season. Liverpool and its interesting history as well as wonderful beaches hopefully will be a bustle again this Tourist season. We don't do but maybe one show yearly anymore, very unlike past years, we wore ourselves out all those years of being on the road travelling from one show to the other.
So anyone looking for me ,and wanting to see any of my works or have a request. By all means drop me a line.
Moka has been spending a few days with us while his Mom enjoys sand and surf in a warmer climate . During yesterdays snow storm I decided to do a needle felting for his Mom to take with her on her next trip so that she has this little sweet heart with her at all times. We have been enjoying his lap dog energy and he is the right size for our little house. We also have another house guest, our adopted dog daughter Laura who stays with us quite often. Moka loves Laura if you get my drift? But they have been working things out and respecting each others space. So yesterday during the snowstorm I stayed busy making Moka in Wool and even though this picture is blurry I 'm sure you get the idea. I do and have done all breeds in the past and these little terriers with their long straight hair are the most difficult. But feel the Love even though.

Today we need to venture out and shovel the car out. Unlike our last snow storm the snow drifts aren't near as bad this time thank Heavens. As much as I love snow and building snowmen I must confess I have had enough. I hear the song birds singing from my open bedroom window mornings and feel so bad for them when we get these last kick at the can near spring snow events. For many years now I have found our Summers so very hot and every year I find shade where ever I can and have been known to complain but this getting older I believe I will prefer the heat to the shovelling and try and not grump so much about the dog days of August this year. For years we floated and played in the Medway River not even thinking about the heat except on the hay fields but since moving to town we no longer have that pleasure of the cool fresh clean Medway River waters. We tried a kiddie pool the first couple of years since moving to town and found that it was more work then worth. A larger pool would be an option ,only if we had a "pool person" to look after it for us. Again I believe more work then worth. Maybe this Summer I will gear up an outdoor shower, and we can cool off in that. Sounds like a plan. I am a believer in making light work, why punish ourselves. Make and keep it simple. Now to warm up the shovel.

I have been so busy of late. With my 60th birthday just gone by ,which turned out to be a huge surprise, a gathering given to me by a few great friends. And I mean surprise! for they totally got me off guard and I am impressed for sure as well as very grateful
I have mailed off a yearly commission to a professor client /friend who I have been supplying wizards to for years now for special graduates of his.
Doing my art classes and volunteering at Wickwire . Then today Feb 28th I got to be entertained at the Dr. John C. Wickwire school by a talented and interesting African drummer/dancer "Mufaro Chakabuck" . She was amazing! We were thrilled to have been invited to the festivities and being drummers ourselves and having done workshops in the past at schools and nursing homes it was a pleasure to be there to watch and enjoy Mufaro do what she does so well. Thank you Mr. Stewart for the invite. The sound of all the drums in the Audtorium was wonderful. The smiles on the Kids faces was heart warming.
I hope to enjoy Mufaro and her drums again someday soon.
Even though a threat of a snow storms hangs over our heads for March 1st, I believe Spring is in the air. We have our Bunny suits nearby and ready for Easter. Those who know us know what I am referring to. Pictures again this year to follow . I have had my Bunny outfit since 1986 and have worn it to many places. I will share this year a bit of History as to when and why and where it has taken me. I have over the years out grown many of my Bunny dresses but the ears and feet always seem to fit. Why not I say, why not!! I LOVE what I do, maybe it all keeps me young in a tired kind of way:-)
Here is a photo of the latest painting I have just finished for a client. Winter here on the South Shore of Nova Scotia has been late joining us as has been the case for a few years now since we moved into town from living on the Medway River. I will admit I miss snow for Christmas, many don't but it just seems that much more magical in a cold white way.
I have been busy starting up my art classes again in this New Year and when not busy preparing for classes I have been working on this painting. Staying warm inside but really wishing for sticky snow so that the Child in me can build a Snow Person with no luck so far. The canvas size of this painting is 3x2' and is oil .It was challenging with all the green but I am happy with the results.
We have been helping with reading mentoring at one of our local Elementary schools again this year and have offered to help as well with their breakfast program a couple times a week. Enjoying doing this, one because we love the Kids and two, we miss our days in Mill Village where we worked with the Village school for I believe twenty plus years even before our son started school there. These smaller schools need so much help ,Teachers at times are stretched thin and any help with anything one can do is much appreciated as well so much needed. Just a simple background check and you too can find a smile appearing on your face from working with some great cute ,funny Children. Days when I return home after having the Children read to me I get inspired to sit down and work on my already started next Children's book. I see the art work in my head and I know it will be a great book for them of elementary age. Even if I must say so myself.I feel it. So saying that and now that I have my commissions finished and Christmas on the back burner again for another year , I will be getting down to writing and sketching and will share more on this in the days to come. I am excited about the illustrations I see for this book. Oh and yes I am practicing with my new Ukulele, but we will leave it at that, I could be doing better.
Here in Liverpool our local Theatre group "The Winds of Change " are now beginning to work on their next production "Les Miserables" yes a full blown Musical with almost ,if not forty people in the cast and even way more behind the scenes. Auditions are about to begin and by the beginning of March the cast will be chosen and things will start . With many Months ahead of hard work which I know will pay off once it hits the stage next November. Stay tuned for more on this as things roll along. I have offered again to help paint the set, which will be yet again another big one as in many plays before but this one may even be more involved. Mark your calendars and visit Liverpool to witness a great play.
Someday I would like to audition for a fun Character part again like in the last play I did. "Riches and Honor" written by Beth George a local playwright from here in Queens County. But to jump with both feet into this play would surely be way too much for a newbie like me, better to leave this one to the pros but I will do what I can to help.
One last thing regarding my art students before I leave you today. We work in many mediums and rug hooking will be one of those mediums coming up . My plan is to have the Children design their own images on the burlap . I was given a large rug hooking frame and am considering having the Children work together in groups on one long table runner and when finished ,if everyone is in agreement we will then auction it off to raise funds which are very much needed for our local SPCA to help all the dogs and cats out there who are in need. As we did this past Christmas with the children's Santa painted mussel shells and raised almost $100.00 . This way they learn how to hook but I don't need to find more then one hooking frame and the kids get to learn about giving of their time for others in need. I will be sharing more on this as well in the Months to come.
So you can see I 'm not busy enough, but I sure am having fun!
I bought myself a ukulele for Christmas, arriving right before Santa came down the chimney. I got to work on my cording , fingers are getting toughened up and practicing is easier. Sound is good, but my playing leaves much to be desired, I will confess. But at least I am working at it. I painted flowers on my Uke and since have given her the title of "Daisy" Meet "Daisy" above. Over the years since a young Child I have always had a passion for stringed instruments as well of course my many drums. With no great success in playing many of the stringed instruments. I have given up on my Banjo and ended up selling it,but have kept my Auto harp and Dulcimer and now have added my new Ukulele to the list. Being only 48 days from turning 60 years old ,I believe it is time to master at least one of my stringed instruments ,so the Uke will be in my hands as much as possible so that once Summer joins us again for those wonderful not always great hot days I'll be able to share a song or two in the shade of a tree with Dear friends who also play, wish me luck.
I finished my Christmas commissions well before Santa arrived , not being one to procrastinate . I haven't been needle felting over the Holidays but practicing my Uke instead. But right before Christmas I accepted a commission of a King Gnome and here he is. These past storm days with no snow for us but heavy rain and blowing wind I have been inside watching old movies and needle felting instead of being outside building Snow Persons. Here is King Gnome on his Throne with a Chickadee on his lap. He will soon be on his journey to his new home in a few days.
There are times in our lives where words never can discribe what a smile can. This is one of those times!! Look at this smile. This is one of my Little Art Students, and I really can't say much more then what you see. "Proud" is one word at the top of a list of many adjectives for this picture.

Santa is on his way and he is travelling quickly our way. At my ripe age ,one does not need much and therefore there is no list here for the old white haired guy. But, sometimes one needs to give a gift to ones self and that is what i am doing for myself this year, we can say it is from my ChuSea Peoplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03266077253808826219noreply@blogger.com1
